I was invited to be in a local group exhibition this February at the beautiful Third Street Gallery here in Grand Forks. The exhibition is titled Selfie, and the artists will play with the concept. This is my piece.
I wanted to create a self-portrait that captured my artist style while still including, well, me. I didn’t want the literal image of me to be the main focal point, I wanted my artistic style-my art–to be what captivated potential viewers and represented me. My art feels like a more intrinsic part of me than my actual appearance.
This is my first gallery exhibition since I moved here. I’m looking forward to being included with other talented artists and I’m excited to see how they developed the theme.
That being said, here is my selfie.

I love your selfie drawing. You could definitely do more with black and white drawing by itself. The contrast of positive and negative is really striking.

Thanks so much. I always get self-conscious with images of myself.
