I know August is over; I’m posting this late. For my August artist’s date, I finally pierced my lip. It took a few weeks for the piercing to heal and then for me to get an adequate photo.
A friend of mine back in college had a thin black hoop piercing in her bottom lip. I’d always loved it. I thought it was subtle, pretty, and fun–and had always wanted to get one myself. I was afraid of what other people would think–so I never did it. After 25, I assumed I was too old, too much of an adult for another facial piercing. However, something this past summer stirred in me and I decided I wanted to the piercing I’d been secretly admiring for about eight years. I decided to step out of my comfort zone, despite what other’s may think.
The first couple weeks I had to keep the initial barbell placed by the piercer to allow for the swelling to go down and for the hole to properly heal. From there I was able to change to a more delicate silver hoop. I like it. Granted, not everyone else does. Obviously my face isn’t their face–so it doesn’t matter too much what they think, and I can always remove it in the future.
Understandably, my parents aren’t keen, but they love me anyway.
